In My Memory/Your History the MMTW explored the intersection of individual memories and history. How does memory cross history for people who belong to several nations or transnational communities? What might the serial migrant’s experience tell us about emerging forms of historical experience, narrative and representation?
During the Ceausescu years the press was printed in the space that would become the Tipographia Gallery. The work of the MMTW artists expanded to fill the expansive, industrial space, integrating old printing presses and other found objects. Considering the history of the site alongside their memories, the artists connected the individual works with a drawing of a world map. The performance at the Bucharest workshop involved an interactive intervention that produced a map based on the artists’ and audience’s actual and imagined migrations across the world.
